About

Building the operating system for AI-native teams.

Why Stilla exists

Before Stilla, we spent the last decade building and scaling products at Shopify. We founded Tictail, Shop & Shop Pay — now processing over $100 billion annually. We built systems that had to work at massive scale, handle sensitive data, and earn trust from millions of merchants.

During that time, we watched something shift. Remote work forced every team to become more intentional about how they shared context and made decisions. Software teams adapted fastest — they'd already adopted the principles of open-source development: everything documented, decisions tracked, work visible to everyone. But the rest of the organization struggled. Product managers spent half their time writing and reading status updates. Context lived in people's heads, not in systems.

Then large language models arrived. And the curve wasn't linear — it was accelerating. We saw clearly that within a few years, AI would be capable of doing much of the coordination work that consumed entire roles. Not just answering questions, but actually doing work: creating tickets, writing code, sending emails, updating documents.

We left Shopify with a text file called “The Future of Work” and a conviction: the tool that helps humans stay aligned today will be the same tool that helps AI agents operate effectively tomorrow. As the ratio of AI to humans in the workforce shifts, the system that holds context, enforces permissions, and orchestrates action across tools will become the most important layer in the stack.

That's what we're building.

What we believe

AI should do work, not generate text.

The gap between "here's a summary" and "I've updated the ticket, opened the PR, and sent the follow-up email" is the gap between a toy and a tool. Stilla closes it.

Context is the moat.

Every meeting, every Slack thread, every ticket, every PR — it all compounds. An AI that only sees your codebase can write code. An AI that sees your entire organization can make decisions. We chose to build for teams from day one, knowing the hardest problem — information access, permissioning, shared memory — would also be the most valuable.

The best model today won't be the best model tomorrow.

We're not locked to any lab. Stilla selects the best model for each task and adopts new ones the moment they ship. In 6 months, the model landscape will look nothing like today. Your AI infrastructure shouldn't be a bet on a single provider.

Enterprise-grade isn't a feature — it's a foundation.

We built payment systems before we built AI systems. That background shapes every decision: how we handle data, how we think about permissions, how we approach trust. SOC 2 Type II with zero findings isn't a badge — it's the baseline.
